Getting around Brookhaven
Brookhaven's transit story is the train: the MARTA Gold Line station at the city's core puts Midtown about three stops away and the airport a straight ride down the line. I-85 runs the west edge for the drivers, and Peachtree Road carries the local spine.
The walking story matters too: the Dresden Drive block, Town Brookhaven, and the neighborhoods around the station make Brookhaven one of the most walkable cities in the guide.
The train
The Gold Line at the center
The Brookhaven station on the MARTA Gold Line sits at the heart of the city. Midtown is three stops, downtown four or five, and the airport a direct ride without changing trains. The bus routes along Peachtree Road and Buford Highway extend the network.
The roads
Peachtree Road and the interstate edge
Peachtree Road runs the city's length and carries most of the local traffic; I-85 skims the west edge for the longer trips; and the walkable blocks of Dresden Drive and Town Brookhaven are genuinely best on foot. Parking at the station and the centers fills early, which is the city's own argument for the train.
Honest times
Ten minutes by train, thirty by car
The honest Brookhaven commute math is the train's story: the ride to Midtown is faster than the drive in traffic, and it avoids the parking problem entirely. The car remains the answer for the Perimeter and the suburbs, where the drive is the same as anywhere else intown.
