Lilburn
Old downtown, railroad still running.
Lilburn was founded in 1890 by the Seaboard Air Line Railway, named for the railroad's general superintendent, Lilburn Trigg Myers, one of the few towns named for a man's first name. A 1920s fire and the hard years trimmed its early prosperity, but Old Town survived and rebuilt, and today the restored storefronts, the depot heritage, and the hourly trains give Lilburn a small town that the growth around it never erased.

Lilburn sits in eastern Gwinnett County, about 20 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta and a few minutes off Highway 29 and the Indian Trail corridor. The town's center is Old Town Lilburn, the restored railroad-era district around the city's main street and the municipal green; Camp Creek runs beside it, and the Lawrenceville Highway commercial frontage handles the errands. Gwinnett County Public Schools serves the city.
