Gilmer County is the heart of Georgia's commercial apple industry, a title that goes back to the 1920s when orchards replaced cotton after the boll weevil. No other Georgia county grows apples at the same scale.
Do you need a car in Ellijay?
Yes. Ellijay is a mountain town with no local bus network; the demand-response MATS service covers mostly medical and senior rides, and almost everything else is a drive.
