MATS and the regional transit
MATS, the Mountain Area Transportation System run by North Georgia Community Action, provides demand-response rides in Gilmer and the surrounding counties, based at the same Gilmer Street building. It is the county's public transit answer, used mainly for medical appointments and the essential errands.
The area agency on aging layer, through the regional commission, coordinates the transportation and senior programs across the mountain counties, and the center's staff is the reliable first call for what is available and how to book it.
