History of Loganville
Loganville was settled in Walton County in the years after 1819, under the early name Bumcombe, sometimes spelled Buncombe. It was renamed for James Harvie Logan, who bought land there in 1842, and the town was incorporated in 1887, with a second charter in 1905.
Sitting on the Walton and Gwinnett county line gave the town two county identities from the start. It grew as a trade center for the surrounding farms long before the subdivisions arrived.
The modern story is the same geography working faster: Loganville still straddles the line, and the old crossroads storefronts now front a steady spill of new neighborhoods from both counties.
