Norcross was Gwinnett's second city and its first on the railroad, incorporated in 1870 by John J. Thrasher and named for his friend Jonathan Norcross. The historic downtown kept its 1800s brick storefronts, and today the square, the depot, and the parks around them give Norcross a real old-town center that few metro cities can claim.

Norcross sits in Gwinnett County just off I-85, about 22 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, sharing the corridor with Duluth, Peachtree Corners, and Lilburn. The city's life concentrates around the historic downtown square on South Peachtree Street, with the railroad still running beside it, and Jones Bridge Park and the county's Pinckneyville complex at the edges. Gwinnett County Public Schools serves the city through the Norcross cluster.
