Doraville grew as a rail stop on the Seaboard line northeast of Atlanta, laid out in the late 1800s on the way to the piedmont rail junction.
A half-century of industry followed, capped by the General Motors assembly plant that ran on the town's west side from 1947 until 2008. Doraville today is a close-in DeKalb city rebuilding on that industrial ground, with a MARTA station anchoring its transit side.
