Transport and commuting · I-985
Getting around Oakwood
Oakwood sits on I-985, and the interchange at Exit 16 is the city's front door: Gainesville about ten minutes up the freeway, Buford and the Mall of Georgia about twenty minutes down, and the Lanier shore a short drive west on the county roads.
US 129 and the lake roads carry the local traffic, and the commuter picture is the Hall County corridor.

The interchange and the corridors
I-985 at Exit 16 connects the city to Gainesville, the metro, and the north corridor. US 129 and the two-lanes run to the lake, Flowery Branch, and the surrounding towns. The frontage hotels and retail fill the interchange district, and the neighborhoods sit quietly behind them.
Transit
The honest car note
Transit service in Oakwood is minimal; the town runs on cars, and I-985 is the corridor for the metro commutes. The park-and-ride options and the Gainesville connection cover the commuter side of the picture.
