For New Residents
The first month in Auburn is a short list: set up the utility accounts, register the vehicles in the right county, get the library card, and learn the downtown block and the state park, because those are the two centers of the city.
None of it is complicated, and most of the first month is best spent between the 5th street downtown and Fort Yargo.
Set up first
The essentials, in order
Water and sewer follow the city and county utility arrangements for your address, and electricity, gas, and internet are standard provider choices. The city of Auburn publishes its department contact points on its official site.
Register
Vehicles, voting, and the library
Vehicle registration runs through the Georgia Department of Driver Services and the tag office in whichever county your address falls in. Voter registration goes through the Barrow or Gwinnett county elections office, by address side. The library card comes from the Piedmont Regional Library System, and the Auburn Public Library at 24 5th Street is the local door.
First month
Learning the city in a week
The downtown block
The 4th and 5th street downtown holds the restaurants, the city offices, and the park next to the library.
The state park
Fort Yargo State Park over the line in Winder carries the lake, the swimming beach, and the trails, the biggest outdoor resource nearby.
The corridors
The Atlanta Highway and the Dacula roads carry the grocery and the everyday errands.
