About Clermont

Clermont is a small town in Hall County's hill country, named by an early surveyor for his birthplace and known locally for the mountain that guards the horizon: Yonah Mountain, the landmark of the northeast Georgia foothills.

The town sits along Cleveland Highway and the mountain roads, a residential base for the Helen, Cleveland, and Dahlonega orbits.

Where it is

Hall County's hill country

Clermont sits in northern Hall County, about 65 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, where the county's hill country meets the White County line. Demorest, Lula, and the foothills towns of the guide are a short drive, and Gainesville is about twenty minutes south.

US-129 and the mountain roads carry the town's traffic, and the practical life runs between Clermont's local stores and the bigger towns fifteen minutes away.

Schools and governance

Hall County, one district

Hall County School District serves the city; verify the current zone with the district's boundary maps by address. Clermont runs as an incorporated city with its own mayor and council, while Hall County provides schools and county services.

Coming and going

The mountain roads start at the city limit

US-129 (Cleveland Highway) runs north to Cleveland and Helen and south toward Gainesville. The mountain roads past the city line are the area's whole appeal, and Yonah's trails are fifteen minutes from town.
