Getting around Clermont
Clermont sits where the Hall County hill country meets the mountains: Cleveland Highway (US-129) runs north to Cleveland and Helen and south toward Gainesville, and the mountain roads off the city limit are the area's whole appeal.
Helen is about fifteen minutes, the Yonah trails a similar drive, and Gainesville about twenty minutes south.
The roads
The highway and the hills
US-129 carries the town's commerce and the mountain tourism, and the county roads lead to the foothills towns and the national forest lands. The mountain roads are the reason for the place; on a fall weekend they are the busiest roads in the county.
Transit
The honest car note
There is no transit service in Clermont; the town runs on cars. The I-985 connection at Gainesville covers the metro commutes, about twenty minutes south, and the mountain tourism traffic is purely seasonal.
