Hall and Banks counties · The crossroads

About Lula

Lula is a small city that straddles the Hall and Banks county line in the foothills corridor, built around the railroad and the crossroads where the roads to Gainesville, Cornelia, and Commerce meet.

The town holds the depot heritage, a block of local storefronts, and the kind of quiet that the county seats along the corridor no longer have.

Where it is

Sixty miles up the corridor

Lula sits about 60 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta at the Hall and Banks county line, a short drive off US-441 north of Gainesville. Gillsville, Clermont, and Demorest are the nearby towns of the guide, and Gainesville is about twenty minutes south.

The county line that runs through town decides which county's schools, ballot, and services your address follows, so that is the first check for any Lula question.

Schools and governance

Two counties, one address check

The Hall side of Lula is served by Hall County School District and the Banks side by Banks County School District, so the first check is which county the lot sits in. The city runs as a small incorporated municipality, while schools and county services follow the address side.

Coming and going

US-441 and the corridor roads

US-441 runs north to Cornelia and the mountains and south to Gainesville; the county roads east lead to the foothills towns and the Lake Lanier shore is about twenty minutes toward Gainesville.

Straight answers

Which county is my Lula address in?

It depends on the street. The Hall and Banks line runs through the city, and the county decides the school district, the ballot, and part of the services. Check the county maps for the exact parcel.

Which schools serve Lula?

Hall County School District on the Hall side and Banks County School District on the Banks side. Verify by address with the right district.

Is there much to do in town?

No, and that is the honest appeal. Lula is a quiet residential crossroads; the doing happens in Gainesville, Cornelia, and the foothills.
