Lawrenceville Government
Lawrenceville runs under a council-manager form of government. An elected mayor and four council members serving staggered four-year terms set policy, and an appointed city manager runs the day-to-day operations.
The city was incorporated on December 15, 1821. As the county seat, it also hosts the Gwinnett County government, the courthouse, and the county administration around the historic square.

The city and the county
Two governments, one square
Lawrenceville is both a council-manager city and the county seat, which means the city government and the Gwinnett County government operate within blocks of each other. The city runs its own administration, parks, and downtown; the county runs the courthouse, the courts, the elections office, and the county-level services based in the city.
