About Sugar Hill
Sugar Hill is a city in northern Gwinnett County, incorporated in 1939 and named, by local legend, after a wagon or train accident in which spilled sugar coated a nearby hill. Today it is best known for doing the small-city civic stuff well: the outdoor amphitheater at the Bowl, the E Center downtown hub, and a park system that punches above its size.
Sugar Hill runs a mayor-council government and grew from a wagon-road stop between Buford and Cumming into a residential city of roughly 25,000.

A wagon-road stop with a sticky name
Before incorporation, Sugar Hill sat along a wagon and road route connecting the railroad city of Buford to Cumming. The local legend holds that a wagon, or a train, spilled sugar that coated a nearby hill, and residents began calling it the hill where the sugar spilled. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated the Town of Sugar Hill on March 24, 1939, and it was redesignated the City of Sugar Hill in 1975.
Today the city's identity is the civic center: the Bowl outdoor amphitheater, the E Center with its gym and the Eagle Theatre, and a downtown West Broad Street with murals, restaurants, and ice cream. It is a residential city that built itself a real center.
