Sugar Hill Government
Sugar Hill runs under a mayor-council form of government. An elected mayor and an elected city council set policy for the city, which was incorporated in 1939 and redesignated as a city in 1975.

What Sugar Hill runs, and what Gwinnett keeps
The city runs its own parks and recreation, the Bowl amphitheater, the E Center, and the downtown. The county side handles the schools through the Gwinnett clusters, property tax, elections, and the large county parks including E. E. Robinson.
