The first month in Atlanta is a short list: set up the city services, get the county registration done on the right side of the line, and learn whether the BeltLine or the interstate is your daily lane.
None of it is complicated, but the county and school checks do not wait, because they quietly decide your ballot, your schools, and part of your taxes.
Set up first
The city services, in order
- Water and sewer: the city account before the keys change hands.
- Trash and recycling run on the city collection schedule, which varies by street.
- Register to vote with Fulton or DeKalb County, then find your polling place.
- Get the library card at the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library for most addresses.

Marry the address to the commute
The most repeated Atlanta mistake is falling for a neighborhood and ignoring the drive. Test both directions of the commute at the times you will actually drive before you sign anything.
